David Chanin is an independent provider of expert services for assessing the consequences of accidental or intentional releases of radioactive materials to the atmosphere. My goal is to provide you the very best in training, mentoring, independent expert review, and the performance of state-of-the-art analyses regarding the effects on the surrounding area from radiological releases to the atmosphere ranging from immediate to multi-day releases. These scenarios can be initiated either by accident due to human, software or mechanical failures, or from intentional acts such as sabotage and radiological dispersal devices (RDDs).
As was done for Pantex Plant (described in Verification of MAX2_MHC.pdf), customized and enhanced versions of MACCS2 or special-purpose pre- or post-processors for MACCS2 can be created for your specific needs. The Pantex version of MACCS2, named MAX2_MHC, incorporated corrections of the source-term and emergency-response coding errors, as well as providing Pantex with the capability to sample from up to ten years of weather data in a single execution, with new joint-frequency tables generated for up to ten years of data. MAX2_MHC also incorporated the pool-fire model of Mills (1987) as described in Mills_87.wpd (WordPerfect 5.2 format). The Pantex sponsored coding to implement multi-year weather sampling and the Mills fire model was verified as correct by Sandia National Laboratories and is used for their internal studies, but those new code features are not available in the publicly released version of MACCS2.
In March 2004, a new MACCS2 code package was made publicly available. It incorporates many error corrections that were identified and corrected as a Consultant to Sandia National Laboratories. The latest error corrected version (which runs under Windows XP) can be obtained from the RSICC at Oak Ridge: MACCS2 v. 1.13.1. Its source code can be modified, verified, and validated to meet your special needs.
